A little favour...

I'm currently doing an MA in publishing and would love to ask a favour for my dissertation research into cookery book buying...

If you could please just vote on this one question you would be helping me out a lot!! And I'll post some BBQ recipes this afternoon for the sunny weekend ahead!

Would you buy a cookbook package that included relevant cookery utensils?

Thanks guys!

  1. Whether I'd buy or not would depend on both the book and the utensils.

  2. That's good to know, thanks Mike. I guess it would always still come down to quality and individual appeal of the items, in order for the overall package to attract a buyer.

  3. Exactly. Being a vegetarian, for example, I wouldn't buy a book on meat cookery no matter what freebie was included. Likewise if they were utensils I'd already got, or had no use for, they wouldn't influence me either way.

As a matter of interest, has anyone ever done this?

  4. I know that Quadrille did something similar in partnership with Waitrose and Bhs for some of their lovely celeb chef recipe books, but only at Christmas and other gift giving times. And I'm sure other companies have done it, but the quality of the cookbook suffers if it isn't done by a publisher - I'm interested in whether it could work if all of these factors were considered!

  5. Only if both the book and the tool were relevant AND if the tool was better than what I already own (a high bar).

    1. Yes exactly, I think the whole package has to be just right for a particular person. Thanks for your feedback!

  6. Again I agree; it would depend on the book and the tool... only if I wanted them both and the were relevant to me.
